Gift Wrapping with Kids

Gift wrapping is a fun and functional life skill to teach your child from an early age! Think of all the opportunities they will have throughout their lifetime to practice gift wrapping.

Aside from being functional, there are many therapeutic benefits to wrapping gifts. It’s a sequential but predictable activity that requires the same steps each time you wrap, resulting in a newly formed habit that will last a lifetime.

When you use both hands in coordination with one another to cut, wrap, tape and tie ribbons, you are actively using both hemispheres of your brain. This causes your two brain hemispheres to talk with one another and increases the integration of your brain and body communication and connections.

You don’t have to wait for natural gift wrapping opportunities! Set up a “wrapping station” with leftover scissors, paper, tags, tape and ribbon and let your child explore wrapping a variety of different sized and shaped objects around the house. In addition, they will enjoy the gift of giving!
