Speech Language Pathologist

Dr. Susan Albaugh is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience in K-12 and post-secondary education. She has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from The University of Virginia, an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from George Mason University, and a B.S. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Frostburg State University. After teaching at the University of Richmond and working in a research center at UVA, she felt called back to the classroom to teach Kindergarten at The Covenant School, which her own children attend. During this time, she developed a deep appreciation for the benefits of speech-language therapy in supporting early literacy for some children, compelling her to return to UVA for a second M.Ed. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She completed her Clinical Fellowship at a pediatric outpatient clinic where she evaluated and treated children aged 0 to 18 years for articulation, receptive/expressive language, fluency, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), and feeding disorders. In the outpatient setting, she gained extensive experience collaborating with parents, teachers, physicians, occupational therapists, and physical therapists while working with a neurodiverse population of children including neurotypical individuals, neurodivergent individuals, and those recovering from trauma. She has also supported children and their families using high-tech and no/low-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Susan is a certified Talk Yoga™ provider and Feed the Peds® trained therapist dedicated to treating the whole child (body, mind, and spirit), educating caregivers, and bridging research and practice to maximize outcomes.

Originally from Maryland, Susan and her husband moved to Charlottesville in 2003 for graduate school. After falling in love with the university town, they decided to stay to raise their family. They live close to UVA grounds with their two children and a Boston Terrier where they enjoy walking to football games and cheering on the basketball and lacrosse teams
